Main projects

1. Education projects

  • Mars Expedition – Our major training project is the MARS EXPEDITION international competition. A competition that has helped to find people interested in space since 2004 and to educate a young generation of cosmic specialists. This is a unique competition across Europe, and Slovakia has a very important role in our efforts to enter the ESA structures.
  • The secondary school subject Cosmology – The first element of cosmic education in secondary schools in Slovakia is the M. Hodža Grammar School in Sučany, where from the school year 2010/2011 the elective course “Basics of Cosmonautics” is taught with a weekly subsidy of 90 minutes (2 × 45 minutes). You can download the curriculum here. In 2015 we also started our own circles “Cosmology for Secondary Schools” at the bilingual high school of C.S. Lewis in Bratislava for the first time.
  • University studies – There are several options for the subject of space studies at university. Within the Master’s degree program, related departments such as astronomy, astrophysics, space physics or physical engineering can be studied in Slovakia at Comenius University Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics in Bratislava, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, etc. The establishment of Space Engineering is also underway within the framework of the international Space Master program. The Czech Technical University in Prague offers the subject “Fundamentals of Astronautics” as well as “Aeronautical and Space Systems“. Quality education can also be obtained at the International Space University in Strasbourg.
  • Space Festival noGravity – SOSA also organizes informal weekend meetings of people interested in news and cosmonautic events in the form of a three-day seminar called NoGravity. This conference is open to anyone interested in space sciences, whether professionals or laics. The pilot NoGravity event took place on October 3 – 5, 2014, in cooperation with the Hvězdárna in the Valašské Meziříčí observatory.
  • Lectures – We also try to raise the awareness of Slovak youth of the field of astronomy and cosmic sciences right from elementary school. This is what the thematic science – popularizing lectures serve, traditionally in connection with cosmic anniversaries. Every year, we participate on the part of Slovakia in the International Day of Human Space Flight (April 12) and World Space Week. If you are interested in cooperation on these events or just want to help us with the promotion, please write to info (at) or fill in the form in the Contacts section.

2. Other active projects

  • Galileo Navigation – receiver development, measurement and testing
  • Development of an automatic stratospheric glider

3. On-hold projects

Developed projects that are currently suspended, waiting for skilled volunteers who will continue the work.

  • Space flight simulator
  • Grow-box
